A scholarly book imprint for monographs, edited volumes and proceedings — currently being established.
The imprint will extend what we already do for journals into longer-form scholarship, in the same fields: medicine, microbiology and the health sciences, alongside management and the social sciences.
Books will be peer reviewed, not simply typeset. A proposal will be assessed for scope and fit; a full manuscript will then go to independent reviewers with expertise in the subject, and the decision will rest with the commissioning editor on the basis of those reviews. Edited volumes will be reviewed chapter by chapter as well as as a whole.
The standards that apply to our journals will apply here too: the authorship criteria, the research ethics requirements, the declaration of AI tool use, and the misconduct procedures.
We intend to publish books open access wherever the funding allows it, with authors retaining copyright under a Creative Commons licence, as they do with our journal articles. Where open access is not possible for a particular title we will say so clearly, and we will not describe a book as open access unless it is.
If you have a book in mind, tell us about it now and we will contact you once the imprint opens. There is no commitment on either side, and nothing to pay.
Send a short outline: the subject, roughly how long it will be, who it is for, and what stage it is at.
We already provide editorial and production support for books that other publishers or institutions are issuing under their own imprints — copy-editing, typesetting and proof management. See publishing services.
