Article Processing Charges (APC)

Effective from Volume 3, Issue 1 (January 2027), the Electronic Journal of Medical Research (EJMR) applies Article Processing Charges to support editorial administration, peer-review management, article production, DOI registration, long-term preservation, and open-access dissemination. Applicable charges are disclosed to authors before submission, and payment is requested only after formal acceptance.

Standard Article Processing Charge

The standard APC is USD 500 per accepted article, irrespective of the authors’ country, before any approved waiver or discount.

There is no submission fee. The APC is charged per article, not per author.

Discount for Authors Based in Pakistan

To support researchers based in Pakistan, EJMR offers a discounted APC of PKR 35,000 per accepted article when the corresponding author’s primary institutional affiliation is in Pakistan at the time of submission.

Eligibility is based on institutional affiliation, not nationality. The discount applies to the article as a whole, including articles with international co-authors.

Eligible corresponding authors should indicate their eligibility during submission. The journal office will verify the affiliation and confirm the discounted amount in writing before invoicing.

PKR 35,000 is a fixed discounted fee, not the currency equivalent of USD 500. Authors who do not meet these conditions are subject to the standard APC unless another waiver or discount is approved.

Open Access Publication

EJMR provides immediate, free access to published articles without subscription or registration requirements. An APC invoice is issued only after the manuscript has been formally accepted and any applicable waiver or discount has been confirmed.

Authors retain copyright and may share their published articles on personal websites and in institutional or subject repositories without an embargo, in accordance with the licence stated on each article.

Articles published from 1 October 2026 onwards are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). This permits sharing and adaptation for commercial and noncommercial purposes, provided that appropriate attribution is given, a link to the licence is included, and any changes are indicated. Previously published articles remain subject to their stated licences.

Further details are available in the journal’s Open Access Policy and Copyright and Licensing Policy.

APC Waivers and Additional Discounts

EJMR offers full or partial APC waivers to support authors who face financial barriers to publication. Applications may be considered for:

  • Authors affiliated with institutions in low- and lower-middle-income countries, according to the World Bank classification.

  • Corresponding authors included in the Stanford/Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists ranking.

  • Invited articles and special issue contributions.

  • Authors experiencing individual financial hardship.

Eligibility, the level of financial assistance, and any supporting documentation requirements are governed by the journal’s APC Waivers and Discounts Policy. Discretionary assistance is subject to the availability of waiver funds.

Authors should submit waiver or additional discount requests during manuscript submission. The journal office will communicate the decision in writing before invoicing. Discounts are not cumulative unless expressly approved; a full waiver, where granted, removes the APC entirely.

Waiver and discount decisions are made independently of editorial assessment and peer review. Applying for financial assistance does not influence manuscript acceptance.

Fee Changes and Payment Transparency

Any future change to the standard APC or discount conditions will be published on this page with a clear effective date. A fee change will not increase the charge applicable to a manuscript already submitted.

Before payment is requested, the invoice will identify the applicable APC, any approved waiver or discount, the payment currency and any applicable taxes or transaction charges. Any additional mandatory charges must be disclosed before submission.

Editorial Independence

APCs and authors’ ability to pay have no influence on editorial decisions. Manuscripts are assessed according to their scholarly merit, originality, methodological quality, ethical standards, and relevance to the journal.

Payment of the full or discounted APC does not guarantee acceptance, preferential treatment, or accelerated peer review. Articles receiving waivers undergo the same editorial assessment and applicable peer-review procedures as other submissions.

Authors are informed of applicable charges before submission; invoices are issued only after formal acceptance.
